315 Music spoke to a representative of the Colgate Live Music Collective about the upcoming performances that students and faculty organized together.

315 Music: Who was involved in organizing these events?

Colgate Live Music Collective: The Live Music Collective is a new campus organization open to all faculty, staff, and students interested in building and sustaining a culture of live music performance on campus and in the local community. Not only is it dedicated to bringing talented professional, touring musicians to the campus, it is also dedicated to providing opportunities and spaces for students to perform.

315: How were the artists chosen?

CLMC: We brainstormed a list of performers at the end of the summer using a shared spreadsheet for members of the collective to list artists they would like to see come to campus. The final list is a result of who of those artists were touring and affordable.

315: What do you like about the mix of different Hamilton area venues?

CLMC: The LMC is interested in bringing a diversity of artists both diversity of genre and identities. That naturally lends itself to different venues being appropriate settings for different musical styles.

315: How can one get tickets? Which shows are just for Colgate Community?

CLMC: We have two performances that are limited to Colgate students, faculty, and staff and their guests. Those are the fiery punk band Mannequin Pussy and Valerie June. Tickets for Amythyst Kiah’s performance at the Earlville Opera House will be selling discounted to $20/adult and $10/student. You can get those tickets through their website here or by calling the box office (315-691-3550).

Nora Brown’s performance at FoJo’s is open to the public. That’s a small space and Nora is on the verge of becoming an absolute sensation in the Bluegrass/Folk/Old-Time music world. We have an Eventbrite site where folks can register for their free tickets. It’s a real perk to living in a college town.

Carlos Cuevas Trio at Memorial Chapel is going to be an incredible show. This is just one of those special things where one of the faculty members is old friends with Carlos. He made some calls and now we have a jazz pianist and composer that has performed at Carnegie Hall and Jazz at Lincoln Center coming to town to perform.
