bob. An Interpretation of Dylan Hits Funk this Thursday

Meet bob. If the stylization of the name looks familiar, it’s because the driving forces behind this relatively new tribute project are Al Schnier and Vinnie Amico of jamband vets moe. Schnier and Amico have joined forces with Charley Orlando (Ruha, Pearly Baker’s Best, Dexter Grove), Brian Lauri (Ruha, Pearly Baker’s Best, Root Shock), and Zach Flietz (Floodwood) to create an all-star Bob Dylan tribute project, interpreting the career and music of the legendary folk singer.

The quintet has performed a couple of times at Ray Brothers BBQ in Madison County to much acclaim, which led to them reconvening for a short run of shows over four days this week.

The run kicks off at Syracuse’s Funk ‘n Waffles on Nov. 6 with special guest Ruha, which is Orlando and Lauri’s band, before heading east to Albany at Ophelia’s on Nov. 7. The show heads north from there on Nov. 8, hitting Saranac Lake’s legendary Waterhole, before finishing up in Morrisville, VT at Lost Nation Brewing Co. on Nov. 9.

Schnier, a founding member of moe., has a looming presence in the Central New York area, through his solo work, and his side projects Al & The Transamericans, and Floodwood. He’s also occasionally dropped in for an open mic sit-in at local bars.

Amico also has ties to the 315 while maintaining a residence in the Albany area. moe.’s keeper of the beat, also works in his side projects, a jazz quartet and Blue Star Radiation with his fellow moe. members.

Orlando, also a veteran of the venerable ’90s jamband scene, has accompanied a plethora of musicians onstage over the years along with fronting his projects Ruha and Dexter Grove.

Lauri’s keyboard prowess has provided lush harmonies for Ruha, Pearly Baker’s Best, Root Shock, and The Black River over the years.

Fleitz drops the basslines, perfectly complementing Amico’s drums, drawn from their time together in Floodwood.
