Syracuse Area Music Awards Dedicated to Fallen Board Member
The Syracuse Area Music Awards (SAMMYS) is celebrating its 31st anniversary this year with its Hall of Fame Induction Ceremony on Thursday, March 7 Upstairs at the Dinosaur and an awards ceremony on Friday, March 8 at the Palace Theater in Syracuse, NY.
This year’s ceremonies will be dedicated to former SAMMYS Board member, Jordan Davies, who passed away on Feb. 13 of this year. Jordan was an integral member of the SAMMYS board, putting together the run-of-show and making sure the awards show went according to plan.
Jordan attended the Crane School of Music at SUNY Potsdam and graduated from MVCC with a degree in restaurant, culinary, and catering management. He was also a graduate of Paul Smith’s College with a BS in hotel, resort, and tourism administration.
Jordan not only served on the SAMMYS Board, but he also helped put The Ridge in Chittenango on the map as a music destination, served as Paul McCartney’s personal assistant in his two performances in Syracuse, and had a hand in several moe.downs, The Taste of Syracuse, The Salt City Waltz, Dandelion Fest, events at the Empower FCU Amphitheater at Lakeview, and the New York State Blues Festival.
Jordan was also an accomplished violinist, performing with the Hamilton College Orchestra, the Half Moon Orchestra, and Symphoria.
Jordan was also a childhood leukemia survivor and a Make-a-Wish Foundation wish recipient. The family has requested that those wishing to honor Jordan’s legacy donate to the Make-a-Wish Foundation in his name. You can do so using the link below or in person at the SAMMYS.
Jordan’s family has also created the Jordan Davies Musical Scholarship for students of Vernon-Verona-Sherrill High School, where he attended school and began his love of music.
