Local Music Friday: J. Schnitt
315 Music introduces a new series focusing on the music available in Central New York and surrounding areas. We’re calling this Local Music Friday and will be featuring a different artist each week.
Kicking off the series is Utica-based singer-songwriter J. Schnitt. This highly prolific musician wears his heart on his sleeve — he has written more than 800 songs over the course of his career. His lyrics range from stinging political commentary to caustic wit to tender balladry.
Schnitt has performed throughout the east coast and in Europe, gracing stages in grand theaters and coffee houses alike.
Today is one of several Bandcamp First Fridays where the music platform is waiving all fees for musicians on each purchase made through their site. All purchases made between midnight PST Friday and midnight PST Saturday will go directly to the artists.
Below, you’ll find two of Schnitt’s recent compositions. The first, “Just As Fast As You” is video from Schnitt’s performance as part of Copper City Brewing Company in Rome’s Quarantine Concert Series back in May. He had written the song the day before recording this video. The second video, “The Horse Latitudes” was written and recorded during the shutdown period as a commentary on the current state of the world.
You can purchase all of J. Schnitt’s music through his Bandcamp page here. You can also find his music on Spotify here and YouTube here.
