315 Live Streams for the Week of April 13 – Two Tributes to Eli Harris, Jr.
As the coronavirus continues its crawl across America, musicians are increasingly turning to social media to get their music out to the masses. 315 Music has been compiling events shared by Central New York musicians to include in this weekly shopping list.
If you’re a CNY musician and would like your live streaming event listed in future pieces, please send us a message through our Facebook, Twitter or Instagram. You can also email us at mike@315music.com.
This week’s streams feature two tributes to Syracuse musician Eli Harris, Jr., who was killed in a hit and run accident on the streets of Syracuse last week. These events — one on Wednesday and one on Thursday — will feature some of Syracuse’s most prominent musicians contributing 15-minute sets over two hours on Wednesday and music from Joe Driscoll, Sophistafunk’s Jack Brown and more, all hosted by the Disruption Network’s Anthony “Zee” Donaldson, on Thursday.
Stay home. Enjoy the streams. Be safe. See you in the venues soon.

Eli Harris, Jr. was a Syracuse musician who, without question, performed in front of more people than any musician in Syracuse history. Those attending any sporting event at the Dome, NBT Bank Stadium or the OnCenter likely encountered this Syracuse music legend without even realizing who they were seeing. Those attending concerts at the Landmark Theatre, the Westcott Theater and many of the other venues throughout Syracuse likely encountered Harris’s joyful noise and infectious smile. Harris made the city his stage and we were all his audience.
Harris, also known as The Mayor of Marshall Street, was honored with the 2019 SAMMYS Founders Award. Syracuse Jazz Fest founder Frank Malfitano feted Harris at the ceremony saying, “Calling Elijah a street musician is kind of like calling Picasso a house painter.”
Harris was struck by a vehicle while riding his bike in Syracuse on April 7. While awaiting help, he was struck by another vehicle, killing him. Harris was 62 years old.
Musician and Syracuse Common Councilor Joe Driscoll has established a GoFundMe to help Harris’s family with medical and funeral expenses. See Eli performing outside the Carrier Dome prior to a Syracuse basketball game via Syracuse.com below.
