The City of Rome and Parks & Trails New York welcomed approximately 600 cyclists to town Thursday for the third annual Cycling the Erie Block Party.
The annual cycling event takes hundreds of cyclists along the Erie Canal Trail from Buffalo to Albany. The nine-day trip has made a pit stop in Rome for years, pitching tents along the lawn of Ft. Stanwix National Monument.
The City has hosted a block party in front of City Hall for three years. Food trucks, vendors, yard games, and live local music were all part of this year’s party.
Despite the poor air quality from Canadian wildfires and high winds, the cyclists kept on cycling, and the musicians kept on musician-ing.
This year brought three local bands to City Hall’s Griffo Green: The Action!, Mike Powell and The Echosound, and Annie in the Water.
Saxophone legend Sam Kininger, sat in with Mike Powell and The Echosound for several songs. This was their first collaboration.
Annie in the Water performed new music from their most recent release, the EP Garden, alongside several crowd favorites.
The Action! opened the music, performing a high-energy set of catchy covers and original music from across their 25+ year career.
