Dave Matthews and Tim Reynolds took a break from the aggressive Dave Matthews Band tour schedule to play a rare duo show at the Constellation Brands Marvin Sands Performing Arts Center in Canandaigua on July 17. Dave and Tim took the stage at 7:45 pm sharp and ripped right into \u201cOh\u201d to kick off a three-hour, 27-song set.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Dave Matthews told the audience, \u201cWe are going to play some songs from over here and some songs from over there and hopefully we end up playing something you like.\u201d The duo performed \u201cGrace Is Gone\u201d followed by \u201cGrey Street.\u201d At this point, the crowd was on their feet singing and dancing along.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The audience continued singing and dancing through \u201cSatellite\u201d and \u201cSo Damn Lucky\u201d before Dave and Tim slowed things down with \u201cThe Ocean and the Butterfly.\u201d Matthews showcased his vocals working in plenty of his trademark scat throughout the evening. He also proved that he knows his way around the guitar. The duo delighted fans with some intricate breakdowns and fancy fretwork. Tim Reynolds is a guitar god. At times it sounded like he was playing bass guitar, drums, horns, and even a mandolin. He often evoked massive cheers from the fans by adding amazing inflections and ornamentations to the songs. He treated fans to two interlude solos throughout the evening, \u201cBetrayal\u201d and \u201cTangled Web We Weave.\u201d Matthews and Reynolds ended their set with some older DMB material including \u201cDancing Nancies,\u201d \u201cThe Stone,\u201d \u201c#41,\u201d \u201cLie in Our Graves\u201d and ended their set with the epic, fan-favorite \u201cAnts Marching.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Matthews and Reynolds exited the stage briefly before returning to the stage for a three-song encore that included a new one for me, \u201cSomething to Tell My Baby.\u201d Matthews described the song as being about \u201cWhat I will leave behind for my children when I am gone.\u201d The duo brought the mood back up with \u201cOld Dirt Hill (Bring That Beat Back)\u201d and rounded out the evening with the classic tune \u201cWarehouse.\u201d It was the perfect end to an epic show.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
