Some artists will be catapulted into stardom with their first Grammy win, while some artists will climb\u00a0towards becoming music legend, and other\u00a0artists will add another award or awards to their already growing legacies.<\/p>\n<p><img fetchpriority=\"high\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter wp-image-143636 size-full\" src=\"https:\/\/newyorksmusic.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/4\/2018\/01\/59th-Grammy-Awards.jpg\" width=\"800\" height=\"600\" \/><\/p>\n<p>With the Grammys right around the corner, <em>NYS Music<\/em> wanted to pay homage to all the homegrown New York musical\u00a0talent, and others who have sought out the state of\u00a0New York to help jump start their musical careers and call the state home.<\/p>\n<p>Many recognizable, and upcoming artists born and raised in New York that have been nominated for a Grammy award include, Brooklyn native Barbara Streisand for <strong>Best Traditional Pop Vocal Album<\/strong>,\u00a0<em>Encore: Movie Partners Sing Broadway;<\/em><i>\u00a0<\/i>Long Island natives De La Soul for <strong>Best Rap Album<\/strong>,\u00a0<i>And the Anonymous Nobody<\/i>;<i>\u00a0<\/i>New Hartford resident <a href=\"https:\/\/newyorksmusic.com\/2016\/08\/03\/central-new-yorkers-celebrate-75th-birthday-on-the-rocks\/\">Joe Bonamassa<\/a> for <strong>Best Traditional Blues Album<\/strong>,\u00a0<em>Live at the Greek Theater<\/em>\u00a0and from the Bronx, Fat Joe, for <strong>Best Rap Performance<\/strong>, for the single &#8220;All the Way Up<em>,&#8221;\u00a0<\/em>which also features\u00a0Remy Ma, French Montana and Infared.<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_118881\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-118881\" style=\"width: 1200px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-118881 size-full\" src=\"https:\/\/newyorksmusic.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/4\/2018\/01\/IMG_2393-copy.jpg\" width=\"1200\" height=\"800\" data-wp-pid=\"118881\" \/><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-118881\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">New Hartford&#8217;s Joe Bonamassa performing at Red Rocks earlier this year.<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>Other hometown nominees include: Little Louie Vega (Bronx ), for <strong>Best Dance\/Electronic Album<\/strong>, \u00a0<i id=\"yui_3_16_0_ym19_1_1481603288298_2677\">Louie Vega Starring&#8230;XXVIII;\u00a0<\/i>guitarist, composer, and arranger Chuck Loeb, (Nyack), for <strong>Best Contemporary Instrumental Album<\/strong>,\u00a0<em>Unspoken<\/em>;<em>\u00a0<\/em>Brady Rymer and the Little Band that Could (Southold), for<strong> Best Children&#8217;s Album<\/strong>,\u00a0<em>Press Play<\/em>;<em>\u00a0<\/em>Sofi Tukker (NYC) for <strong>Best Dance Recording<\/strong> for the track &#8220;Drinkee;<em>&#8221;\u00a0<\/em>Catherine Russell\u00a0(NYC) for <strong>Best Jazz Vocal Album<\/strong>,\u00a0<i>Harlem on My Mind<\/i>;<i>\u00a0<\/i>John Coltrane&#8217;s son Ravi (Long Island) for <strong>Best Improvised Jazz Solo<\/strong>, &#8220;In Movement;&#8221;\u00a0Claire Lynch\u00a0(Kingston) for <strong>Best Bluegrass Album<\/strong>,\u00a0<i>North by South<\/i>;<i>\u00a0<\/i>Bob Mintzer (New Rochelle) for <strong>Best Large Jazz Ensemble Album<\/strong>,\u00a0<em>All L.A. Band<\/em>;<em>\u00a0<\/em>Andy Gonzalez\u00a0(Bronx) for <strong>Best Latin Jazz Album<\/strong>,\u00a0<i>Entre Colegas <\/i>and Steve Gadd (Rochester) for <strong>Best Contemporary Instrumental Album<\/strong>\u00a0<em>Way Back Home: Live From Rochester, NY.<\/em> Gadd is also James Taylor&#8217;s touring drummer.<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_56751\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-56751\" style=\"width: 1000px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-full wp-image-56751\" src=\"https:\/\/newyorksmusic.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/4\/2018\/01\/Bryan-Lasky-Claire-Lynch-Band-06.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"1000\" height=\"664\" data-wp-pid=\"56751\" \/><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-56751\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Kingston&#8217;s Claire Lynch<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>Many artist have ties to New York and though not born in the state, some call it home. Some of these artists include one of the hottest\u00a0duos on the EDM scene, <a href=\"https:\/\/newyorksmusic.com\/2016\/04\/16\/2016-syracuse-block-party-announced-with-co-headlining-acts\/\">The Chainsmokers<\/a>, who are French-born, Westchester-raised Alexander Pall and Andrew Taggart, a Scottish native raised in Maine and a Syracuse University graduate. After graduation, Taggart was part of the SU Music Business program before taking DJ gigs in NYC where he would eventually meet Pall. The Chainsmokers are nominated\u00a0for <strong>Best New Artist, Best Pop Duo\/Group Performance<\/strong> for their single, &#8220;Closer,&#8221; which also features Halsey on vocals,\u00a0and for <strong>Best Dance Recording<\/strong> for their single, &#8220;Don&#8217;t Let Me Down,&#8221; which features\u00a0the singer Daya.<em>\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0<\/em><\/p>\n<p>Bob Dylan, the <a href=\"https:\/\/newyorksmusic.com\/2016\/10\/13\/bob-dylan-awarded-2016-nobel-prize-in-literature\/\">2016 Nobel Prize<\/a>\u00a0in Literature recipient, used to reside in New York and wrote many of his most influential music while living in Woodstock. Dylan is credited with helping to create\u00a0the folk scene in Greenwich Village. His contributions stand among some of New York&#8217;s most significant musical pieces. Dylan is nominated for <strong>Best Traditional Pop Vocal Album<\/strong>,\u00a0<i id=\"yui_3_16_0_ym19_1_1481603288298_2671\">Fallen Angels, <\/i>and\u00a0for <strong>Best Historical Album<\/strong>,\u00a0<i>The Cutting Edge 1965-1966: The Bootleg Series, Vol.12 (Collector&#8217;s Edition).<\/i><\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-103937\" src=\"https:\/\/newyorksmusic.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/4\/2018\/01\/bob-dylan.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"1200\" height=\"600\" data-wp-pid=\"103937\" \/><\/p>\n<p>Before his passing on Jan. 10, 2016, David Bowie had a residence for many years in Woodstock.
