Beak & Skiff Apple Orchards <\/a>and DSP Shows<\/a> continued to capture the hearts of their Central New York audience and beyond with another incredible concert featuring The Head & The Heart with special guest Phosphorescent. Both bands rocked and rolled another nearly sold-out crowd under pink sundown skies, above an illuminated stage amongst the beautiful swaying apple trees in the breeze of this must-see venue.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Head & The Heart have had an incredible journey since forming in Seattle in 2009, burning their first records onto CD and building a true grassroots success story, selling out shows and headlining festivals. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

From the early days of touring with acts such as Death Cab for Cutie, My Morning Jacket, Vampire Weekend, Dr. Dog, and more, they have established their unique sound. On this night, the band played upbeat, harmonious, and beautiful music from their first self-titled record up through their recently announced and untitled upcoming sixth record. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Head & The Heart has become a truly talented group of troubadours. Those who were lucky enough to attend the show at Beak & Skiff heard songs from the entire catalog. In a very touching moment, one band member said of the venue “This feels like home,” before playing the song “In The Orchard.<\/em>“<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The set was very well received and the sound was impeccable from all areas of the venue. The Head & The Heart touched on all their records and possibly included a new song with “Arrow,” before ending the show with three encore songs, including a finale of their first hit “Rivers & Roads.”<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Phosphorescent was the perfect opener and paired well with The Head & the Heart. Their tempo was slow and rollicky. With the pedal steel and poignant vocals though singer\/songwriter Matthew Houck said his voice was struggling, while echoing through the hillside. The group captured the magic of the sunset and what the night was to become in the midsummer hue as they closed with their effervescent and gorgeous “Song For Zula.” Readers might also love their covers of “Sugaree” with Jenny Lewis and “Why She’s Acting This Way” by Townes Van Zandt or Dylan’s “Tryin’ To Get To Heaven.”<\/p>\n\n\n\n

It’s been another incredible season at the orchard, as just the night before The Flaming Lips played the entire Yoshimi Battles the Pink Robots<\/em> album. Beak & Skiff still has shows to come, with tickets still available. Check out their lineup here.<\/a><\/p>\n\n\n\n
